Early Sweet stars in Egypt
Following last week’s edition, we couldn’t help but share with you more photos of amazing Early Sweet grapes from Egypt.
Even in a market that receives year-round supply of grapes, and despite the entrance of new big countries such as Peru and India, Early Sweet remains relevant in the market, even after two decades. This status is kept due to this very early variety’s appealing appearance, excellent eating quality and good shelf life.
The Early Sweet growers in Egypt continuously prove their high standards by producing excellent quality grapes with high brix levels. These incredible results help keep Early Sweet in high demand.

Macfrut Exhibition - Italy
Last week, AVI represented the ARRA varieties at Macfrut exhibition in Rimini, Italy.
AVI held meetings with existing and potential European ARRA varieties growers. They also met most of the main players of the GDO (Great Distribution Organized – mass retailers) and discussed about the grape supply and marketing program for the 2019 season.

Carlo Lingua, CEO of AVI, exclusive European agent for ARRA grapes, gave a presentation about ARRA varieties and talked about their history and ongoing global expansion, including countries like Serbia, Bulgaria, Morocco and Turkey.
Compared to Italy, it is much easier to plant hundreds of hectares of grapes in these countries, especially since their production costs are significantly lower.
Carlo went on saying that another reason why these countries would make a prominent competitor in the market is the high quality produce they will provide. He explained that since some of these countries have a lack of experience in the grape industry, their producers will be more inclined to implement the production protocols of the breeders and apply technical guidance.
Carlo underlined that mass retailers should consider not only the variety of the grapes and the brix level. They should also consider the origin and the quality of the produce.
Classic Comeback - Muscat flavor is the future
For the future, Carlo thinks that new varieties such as ARRA 8A-19+4, ARRA 9A-3+1 and the new line of Muscat flavored varieties – “The Muscateers”, can be very interesting and stand out on the market.
Carlo Fideghelli, President of the Technical and Scientific Committee of IVC (Italian Variety Club), also spoke at the Table Grape Meeting and seemed to agree that the future is in the classic Muscat flavor: “the Muscat flavor is increasingly being appreciated by consumers”.
