Report brought to you by Russaika Nascimento, Grapa Brazil Technical Manager
Last month, the harvest of the “second semester” officially began in Brazil. Due to the growing conditions and the shorter cycles of the ARRA varieties, the growers can produce two harvests annually. The first starts in March and the second in September. Some of the grapes harvested from September on, have already reached their export destinations in Europe and North America with excellent quality. This year Brazil is allocating larger quantities of grapes to North America due to the shortage created by tropical storm Hilary. Additionally, the domestic market has been showing good prices and an indication of increased consumption.
The quality of the fruit produced was supported by the good weather conditions during this semester’s growing cycle. This favorable climate led to the optimal expression of the ARRA varieties’ characteristics.
ARRA SweetiesTM grapes reached their highest quality in both appearance and tastiness, with remarkable crunchiness as well as their pleasing brix-acidity balance.
ARRA Cherry CrushTM, the variety that has drawn so much attention in recent months, due to its unparalleled flavor and striking color, has totally won over Brazilian consumers and importers from many other countries. Everyone who met ARRA Cherry Crush loves it. All producers’ expectations are to increase the planted area of the ARRA Cherry CrushTM and continue to obtain high profitability in production.
“ARRA Cherry CrushTM is a fruit of exceptional quality, with a high rate of utilization in the packing house. On the first day of harvest, 100% of the harvested fruit was packaged for export and we had only 1.5% of fruit discarded. This is the red variety that was missing until today and can now bring another great income source for the growers.” Mrs. Delvania Silva – Quality coordinator – Guruva Group.
ARRA Cherry CrushTM is also being sold in mixed punnets with its perfect partner: ARRA SweetiesTM . They make a great pair due to the similarity in shape and size.
“ARRA Cherry CrushTM is spectacular. I consider it to be one of the best varieties launched in recent years, as it has several desired characteristics, such as, for example, high production potential, very tasty, crunchy, excellent color and market acceptance. All in all, I think it’s a spectacular variety.” Mr. Alessandro Marques – Consultant in Greentec.
We look forward to updating you as the season unfolds, but in the meantime enjoy these beauties!
Raimsa Grapes, a Spanish family-owned company with over five decades of experience, has embarked on a bold journey of innovation in the world of seedless table grapes over the past five years. During this period, Raimsa Grapes has conclusively demonstrated that varietal transformation through the introduction of new seedless grape varieties is a fruitful and promising strategy.
Tomás Rosatto, Commercial Director and Director of New Variety Implementation, highlights the challenge facing the company: gradually replacing seeded grape varieties in the year-end market with seedless grapes. The company has focused its efforts on the ARRA program, resulting in impressive commercial success.
See the beautiful pictures of ARRA Sugar Drop™ below.
The ARRA varieties, especially ARRA Sugar Drop™ and ARRA Mystic Dream™, have demonstrated exceptional adaptation to the Mediterranean climate of the Valley of Grapes, located between Murcia and Alicante. Moreover, the thorough pre-harvest protocol, guided by Grapa Varieties, has contributed to their success.
The relevance of these varieties in the market is undeniable. ARRA Mystic Dream offers an exceptional late black grape that meets the demands of markets seeking the rich experience of black grapes. Additionally, the early white ARRA Sugar Drop has proven again to be an extremely popular choice with a positive market penetration. This seedless grape is appreciated for its impeccable appearance and outstanding quality, characterized by its crisp texture, sweetness, and the right level of acidity, satisfying even the most discerning consumers.
“ARRA Mystic Dream™ proved to be a reliable variety in production”, says the President of Fruitsland Di Angelo Di Palma & C. S.S.- Societa’Agricola, Mr Angelo Di Palma. “It allowed us to satisfy the market request for black grape cultivars in the late season period”.
“Our goal regarding the ARRA Sweeties™”, he continues, “is to satisfy those consumers who are looking for a distinctive white grape cultivar. From the first sales feedback received we can assume ARRA Sweeties™ could be the most suitable variety to fit into this market target”.
As part of the Grapa’s yearly global exhibition tour, the team returned earlier this month from three very busy and fruitful days at Fruit Attraction 2023.
The team was proud to showcase the finest ARRA Varieties from all over the world: from California, after Tropical storm Hillary, from Greece, after the untimely rainfalls, as well as from Brazil and Italy. It was quite an “international bunch” of ARRA Sweeties™, ARRA Cherry Crush™, the shining red ARRA Fire Crunch, the late black ARRA Mystic Dream™ as well as the beautiful early ARRA Sugar Drop. All the grapes received an incredibly positive welcome. Their resilience to adverse weather conditions and exceptional quality left a lasting impression and was the focus of the many visitors at the stand.
Andre Vermaak, Grapa’s Global Tech Support Advisor, summarized the memorable experience, “People were excited about ARRA Varieties. The big talk was rain and how the grapes look after and in spite of it, people just couldn’t believe it.”
The Grape Attraction congress that was held on the first morning of the exhibition, was focused on the consumer preferences and how to increase consumption. As part of the ‘breeders talk’ panel, Nomi Karniel-Padan, Grapa’s Commercial Director, took the discussion to a different direction. She emphasized the responsibility of the breeders to supply growers with varieties that will help them cope with the ever-changing global climate in order to keep the consumer happy with consistent, high quality grapes.
The Global Produce & Floral Show, in Anaheim, CA was held between October 19-21. Our partner, Giumarra Vineyards and Companies were there proudly, showcasing their California grown ARRA varieties.
There was a special focus at the stand on ARRA Cherry Crush™. The stand drew many visitors, and there was a very good response for the ARRA reds with the retailers.
After Fruit Attraction, the Grapa Team is busy preparing for the 10th International Table Grape Symposium (ITGS) will be held this year in South Africa, 26 November – 1 December.
Grapa Varieties and Topfruit are proud sponsors of one of the grape industry’s most prestigious events, held once every three to four years. It is the space where table grape science meets industry to showcase advancements in knowledge and innovation, demonstrate the sustainability of the global table grape industry, and provide insights into market and consumer preferences.
During the symposium, the fresh, very early ARRA™ varieties will be presented at our stand for you to see and taste throughout the week.
ARRA partners are invited to take part in the exclusive ARRA events that will be held during the symposium.

We are thrilled to witness its remarkable potential. Boasting an alluring cherry colour, impressive size, abundant production, and a perfect balance of taste and crunch, ARRA Cherry Crush creates a mutually beneficial scenario for discerning producers, consumers, and retailers.”
Igniting the senses
Just in time for the festive season, the inaugural batch of ARRA Fire Crunch™ made its way from Peru to the USA. Karl Conrads, founder, CEO of Grapasa accompanied the first year vines from budbreak all the way to Walmart facilities in Los Angeles.
Don’t miss the footage, showing this landmark arrival, now the sky’s the limit.
Sharing the passion – Right now in Southern Africa:
“It’s a great, beautiful grape, we are having a great time packing it.” shares Gabriel Viljoen of G.P. Viljoen Farming
We’ve heard other growers excited about this year’s performance.
“The ARRA Passion Fire was probably the most beautiful red grapes around on our farms.”
Start the season with a Kiss
This year, attendees got a firsthand look at ARRA Fire Kiss™ in Egypt. What stood out was how distinctly different it was from the Flame, leaving no doubt that it is the perfect Flame replacement.
