ARRA Sugar Drop™ (ARRA 30), around the beginning of June, the first batches will be available at Barbera.

The highly anticipated campaign for ARRA Sugar Drop™ (ARRA 30), the premium seedless grape, is about to commence. Our agronomists, working in collaboration with the AVI team (the European licensee company for all ARRA grape varieties), closely monitor the different stages of bunch ripening right from the beginning.

They ensure that all protocols aimed at achieving optimal quality are meticulously followed. Quality control at Barbera plays a vital role in the harvesting and packaging stages. Our technicians ensure that only the best bunches are selected, harvested at the perfect degree of ripeness, and meet the quality criteria agreed upon with our customers. We understand that selection is a guarantee of taste and quality. Alessandro Barbera, founder, owner, and general manager of the company, emphasizes this commitment.

The ARRA Sugar Drop™ grape boasts several exceptional characteristics. It has a very thin skin that melts in the mouth, a delightfully crunchy pulp that makes a satisfying ‘crunch’ sound when bitten, and a higher sugar content compared to other grapes. The light color tends to reach shades of yellow that are most appreciated by consumers.

Furthermore, it is entirely seedless. The grapes are uniform in size, medium to large, elongated in shape, and firmly attached to their stems (even when the bunch is vigorously shaken). ARRA Sugar Drop™ already qualifies as a Premium category seedless table grape based on its excellent organoleptic characteristics alone. Seedless, Sharad and Maylen also commenced.

Sustainability is also a top priority. ARRA Sugar Drop™ is cultivated using environmentally friendly techniques, resulting in a product of high quality and low environmental impact. In the 2023 season, out of the 32 hectares under full production, 12 are dedicated to organic farming. We ensure balanced nutrition with the assistance of natural fertilizers of organic origin and employ irrigation techniques that align with the plant’s actual needs. Through advanced technologies, we monitor humidity levels in the vineyards and determine the appropriate moments for irrigation, thereby minimizing wastage.

When Alessandro Barbera decided to invest in this product four years ago, he was not only captivated by its excellent organoleptic characteristics but also its early ripening. “Here in Sicily,” explains Alessandro Barbera, “these grapes mature much earlier than in other European regions. For instance, in Puglia, they are harvested almost a month and a half later. This allows us to fill a supply gap at the beginning of the season with a 100% Italian product grown in Sicily.”ot to be missed.

ARRA Sugar Drop™ will be available for sale both domestically and internationally. The Sicilian company benefits from a long-standing network of collaborations with numerous distribution partners abroad. However, the Barbera Group is determined to exert a stronger push in the domestic market. “The Italian market is also poised for ARRA Sugar Drop™,” concludes the manager. “I believe 2023 will be the turning point for this premium product.”
